Well, Cotterpin Doozer was forced into this coming-of-age ceremony, but then things went wrong... I thought it was creepy in a Lowrian manner. muchabstracted did not agree with me. :D

She wasn't forced into it; there was a lot of societal pressure, but she never ended up doing it! And she was perfectly happy with the alternative that was offered to her.

And what about me? What if I want to be a Fraggle and play all the time and only work for 15 minutes a week? Our society won't let me do that either. I think we live in an oppressive regime* too.

You weren't given a choice of exactly two careers, building and architecting. Not to mention that the option of architecting was only offered to Cotterpin after she quite dramatically ran (um, drove in her cute little car-thing) away from home to become a Fraggle.
