Nov. 17th, 2005 12:08 amThings that make me happy, in no particular order:
Thing that rather disturbs me:
- I keep finding kosher ground turkey for $2.59 a pound at Trader Joe's. That's cheaper than tofu, or cheese, or any number of protein alternatives. I can afford kosher animal products!
- My sister, who just might be my favorite person in the world, is coming to visit me for four days next weekend.
- I have fallen in love with certain books I once loathed, including The Scarlet Letter and The Sound and the Fury.
- I have new glasses. They are deep red and angular, and they do fascinating things to the shape of my face.
Thing that rather disturbs me:
- It is November 17. There are three weekends left in the semester, and I intend to spend one of them with my sister. The other two must be reserved for seminar papers. This means that I will not be seen on the Internet this weekend (or the next one, or the one after that). Deepest apologies,
avariel_wings and

Apr. 26th, 2005 03:06 pmI clearly didn't have enough projects to work on in the next two weeks, so fate decided I needed one more. Last week's blue screen problems with my laptop have advanced to the point that ... let's just say the computer's not going to work again until I reinstall Windows. Don't expect to see me online for long periods of time until May 9 at the very earliest.
Meanwhile, I hope everyone who observes it is having a happy and kosher Passover. Mine has been lovely so far. Amazingly enough, my chicken soup tastes like the chicken soup my mother makes. I used her recipe, of course, but that's not a guarantee of flavor.
I found the afikomen (a small piece of matzah traditionally hidden during the Passover Seder) on Saturday night. My prize for this was a six-inch-tall fuzzy gray elephant. It isn't animate, of course, but it amuses me anyway.
I named it Soredamors.

Dec. 16th, 2004 12:32 amAll right, friends. I'm pulling a two-night near-all-nighter to get this last paper completed by noon Pacific time on Friday. I would adore it if you leave me interesting and fun notes to entertain me when I hook the computer up to the net to send out my once-every-two-hours backup. It doesn't have to be too interesting, though -- too much distraction bad.
Thanks awfully!
Thanks awfully!
I should make an extensive post to celebrate my one-year LJ anniversary (November 27). Instead, I am trying frantically to finish enough of the current paper to present it in class tomorrow. I'm only posting right now to make one frustrated shriek:
Why, oh WHY, can't families think of more than three names to give to their children? Also, if one must repeat a family name, can one at least keep track of how many people have had that family name? Yes, Simon de Montfort, I'm looking at you. Also at your father, Simon de Montfort, and your son, Simon de Montfort, and about two or three other unidentified Simons de Montfort. One of these Simons I have found identified as Simon III in one source and Simon IV in another.
There are also several people named Amaury de Montfort and several more named Guy de Montfort to add to the fun.
