Happy Hanukah! (And merry Christmas, to those who celebrate it.)

The entire family's sound asleep, so I'm spending a pleasant afternoon reading [livejournal.com profile] yuletide.

First, any fans of Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane, especially those of you with some knowledge of Renaissance literature, should absolutely read A Donne Deal. The story plays games with language and literature that are worthy of Sayers at her best.

For anyone who's read Diana Wynne Jones' Fire and Hemlock, The Story of Thomas Piper (As Told by Thomas Lynn) shows us Tom and Polly doing what they do best, that is, telling stories. (If you haven't read Fire and Hemlock, read that first. It's wonderful.)

Happy Chanukah! And Christmas or Yule or whatever to anyone else who is celebrating one of those, but it's so nice to have someone wishing me the right holiday for once.
