A Druid named Arthur Pendragon is running for British parliament.

I love the world.

And his middle name is Uther, too. WOW.

As [livejournal.com profile] muchabstracted and I are saying below, I'm fairly sure the man did not begin life with that name.

It was very hard to write that sentence, because I couldn't call Arthur Uther Pendragon by his first name, and it just seemed really wrong to call him Pendragon.

*snickers* I'm not sure if I should characterize this as "problems that don't occur to people when they change their names" or "perks that sometimes accompany changing one's name.

A 'full-time Druid,' according to the article. Hee. That's awesome. Why do the British get to have their politics be so much more fun than ours?

It really isn't fair. Dennis Kucinich is just not this cool.

...was he born with that name?

Somehow I'm a bit skeptical about that one.

I actually think it's part of modern Druid religion to change one's name. I don't remember where I heard that; I could be wrong.

In that case, I am much less frightened.

You're not frightened by the fact that some environmentalist and probably pacifist Druid decided to name himself after a famous sixth-century war leader?

*grins* who murdered at least two of his sons.

Maybe he just has the fairy-tale image of the blond, dim, hopeful Arthur that we've all been inflicted with.

*points above*

What [livejournal.com profile] tahira_saki said.

It doesn't seem at all remarkable that an environmentalist, pacifist Druid would name himself after Arthur. Although I would never dream of saying that it isn't hilariously funny.

What I find especially funny is that, reading these comments straight through, it looks like a full-time British druid took the ceremonial name "Dennis Kucinich."

And then killed two of his sons.
