I would like to most enthusiastically welcome (and yes, that's a split infinitive) [profile] terriqat to our little corner of LiveJournal. Terri's a good friend and former roommate, and I'm very happy to see her here. (What is it about the narcotic Yemenite shrub, though, dare I ask?)

Also, there seems to be an icon-making meme going around; you request an icon, and I design one based on an interest from your interest list. Request away!

Requesting an icon! Do I have to pick a specific interest, or will you pick one? :-)

Either way. It's easier if I'm familiar with the particular interest, though.

You can pick one, then -- I love surprises!

How did you get the little face next to "terriqat" to look like that?

Look up QAT in your OED. Also, how is your medieval french? You see, in Talmud class, we are working from a manuscript version of Rashi, and no one bothered to translate his frequent forays into french. Since he lived around the first crusade, I figured you might be able to help ;)

Funny you should ask. I am actually taking a medieval Bible commentaries class in which, up to yesterday, we were reading Rashi in Hebrew -- and yesterday we discussed his tendency to write in OF.

My medieval French exists, but is out of practice. Send me the words and the context, and I will look the words up in my happy Old French dictionary. As I understand it, the forays are usually glosses, not long passages; I can do that.
