1. Are you an essential worker?
No, but I've been teaching and tutoring from home. It's not the same, but it's a job (and a half) and I'm grateful.
2. How many drinks have you had since the quarantine started?
More than my usual, but still not very much. I cracked into some hard cider I'd been saving. In two Zoom-enhanced seders, I drank about three (small) cups of wine instead of switching to grape juice. It adds up to a total of about one bottle of wine and two cans of cider over three and a half weeks, including the seders.
3. If you have kids... Are they driving you nuts?
No kids. I've been talking to many friends overwhelmed by kids. It's almost enough to make me grateful for infertility.
4. What new hobby have you taken up during this?
Not new, really, but I've gone back to proper cooking. It's been a long while since I had time to roast a chicken, make chicken stock, and turn the stock into risotto, as I did this week.
5. How many grocery runs have you done?
None since March 13. We stocked up very well on nonperishables and frozen goods. The local produce market delivered an order to my car once, and my in-laws were able to pick up fresh meat from the kosher market and drop that off, so we've been able to stay out of the buildings altogether.
6. What are you spending your stimulus check on?
I'll worry about that when we get it, but some combination of treats, savings, and charity, probably.
7. Do you have any special occasions that you will miss during this quarantine?
My students' graduation, perhaps. I'm sure it's not going to happen.
8. Are you keeping your housework done?
As much as ever. I should do laundry.
9. What movie have you watched during this quarantine?
Honestly, I have been so tired of screens that by evening I don't want to watch movies.
10. What are you streaming?
Spotify women singer-songwriter playlists while taking walks.
11. Nine months from now is there any chance of you having a baby?
*eyes hysterectomy scars wryly* Zero multiplied by any number equals zero.
12. What's your go-to quarantine meal?
It's Passover, so the usual noodles and sauce and vegetables and cheese is not presently a thing.
13. Is this whole situation making you paranoid?
Not really, but that's because I'm not going anywhere.
14. Has your internet gone out on you during this time?
Thank goodness, no.
15. What month do you predict this all ends?
Summer 2021, if a vaccine works. Please God I hope we are able to go places before then, but until we can prevent infection, we will be stuck in cycles of disease. After that we will be digging out of economic depression for five years or so.
16. First thing you’re gonna do when you get off quarantine?
Visit my parents. Maybe go to a restaurant, if restaurants exist.
17. Where do you wish you were right now?
In a bookstore or a library. Or, better, the cafe section adjoining a bookstore, with a beverage and a snack and something new to read. I have plenty of new books, but I'd love to be reading them outside of my house.
18. What free-from-quarantine activity are you missing the most?
Going to work, to tell the truth. Having lunch with colleagues.
19. Have you run out of toilet paper and hand sanitizer?
We are stocked for a reasonable duration. I think we may need TP in a few weeks, but we have for now.
20. Do you have enough food to last a month?
Yes. If we don't replenish perishables, we might eat beans and rice and freezer leftovers for a while, but we could avoid starving probably for two months with a basic diet.
