Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, writes about His Dark Materials. In fact, it's the best piece of Pullman criticism I've seen in a long time.

Link from Bookslut, of course.

There are major spoilers in the article, so read His Dark Materials already.

Oooh, look:

Rowan Williams and Phillip Pullman will discuss His Dark Materials at the National Theatre, London SE1, on Monday. His Dark Materials is at the National Theatre until March 27. Box office: 020-7452 3000.

What I would give to drop all my classes and buy a plane ticket...!

I'm sure I'd fit in your suitcase

Aside from my sheer joy in 'HDM' as anti-establishment YA lit (well -- they sell it that way in the bookstore, don't they?) and the sparkly-fresh antidote to having learned that Narnia is a Christian allegory, I should love to hear Pullman hold forth about the books in a debatey thing.
I liked 'The Ruby in the Smoke' before he ever became famous...
