Apparently, the Thesis of Doom is not, in fact, done yet. I will need to sit on the telephone with my second reader for an hour ironing out remaining difficulties, after which, I am told, the beast will be morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, undeniably and reliably dead. Given the sheer number of previous exaggerated rumors of MA demise in my life, I have to say I feel a smidgen suspicious.

Therefore, if you should read this post before noon Pacific on the 23rd of February (that's 3 PM EST, 2 PM CST, and goodness knows what else), at which time I shall have completed the conversation with my reader, I ask you to pray, meditate, or clap your hands and announce that you believe in fairies, and think of me. I need all the extra karma I can get. It is times like these when I find myself understanding the Catholic asking-saints-for-intercession. Sancte Leibowitz, ora pro me. (Or is it mihi? Not looking up preposition cases now, thank you...)

Meanwhile, I just saw in the comments to an old entry of [livejournal.com profile] calanthe_b that in the original version of the Alanna of Trebond books by Tamora Pierce, before Pierce lowered the books to YA/children's, Thom was bisexual and having an affair with Roger. This makes an amazing amount of sense. Someone definitely needs to write Thom/Roger slash, possibly taking place during the events of Lioness Rampant and involving half-dead-and-haggard!Thom and resurrected!Roger. It is not, however, going to be me.
