You guys? Last night there was a snowdrift around my car (a minivan, by the way, so huge we call it the 2001 Space Odyssey) that was higher than the car's tires. Then it snowed more, and a snowplow came into my parking lot and pushed even more snow up around it. Now... well, my car looks like a snow minivan. I swear, all it needs is a corncob pipe and a button nose. *flails* I need to use that car, maybe not today, but certainly Monday. How will I ever get it out of there, and when I do, is it even going to start?

I also have a piece of advice for all of you. Do not leave your snow shovel flat on the ground beside your house before a 9-12 inch snowstorm. You may never find it again.

I think I may borrow the neighbors' snow shovel long enough to dig mine up.

([livejournal.com profile] bookelfe, are you sure you want to come visit me? ;))

At least I can share my recipe for Quick Mexican Hot Cocoa:

Heat 6 ounces milk (or so). Stir in two small spoonfuls(or a heaping spoonful and a little more) hot cocoa mix. Add small spoonful of plain cocoa, scant dash cayenne pepper and generous dash cinnamon.

Finally, one of my [livejournal.com profile] yuletide betas pointed out a massive error in the dialogue, and now I have to think of some way to fix it before the deadline arrives. I shall ponder while I look for my snow shovel.

My car is a snow car too, and I'm not going to be able to get it out for a few days. Maybe I should add a button nose...

I'm afraid my solution to that problem was: leave the car where it is, until half the snow melts, and the neighbors get tired of it sitting on the side of the road, and have it towed because (by Somerville's ridiculous parking laws) no car can be in the same place for more than 24 hours.

Do you have a shovel/entrenching tool in your van? If not, you should definitely get one. Another useful thing for clearing snow out of driveways, oddly enough, is a large squeegee -- the kind used for cleaning floors.

The squeegee idea sounds intriguing. But the shovel problem is solved. It turns out that the three snow shovels in my house entranceway belong to the landlady. She leaves them there for us to borrow.

(Actually, I still need a personal shovel to keep in the van until I dig mine up... but I can deal with that later.)

Oh, man, I was always leaving my shovel in my car (back when I had a car). I left it in the trunk in case it snowed while I was in a parking lot or something, but never remembered to take it indoors when they forecast snow. (Why I didn't just buy two shovels is beyond me, now.)

And also--yay! Your journal header is a quote from one of my favorite songs! It gets heavy rotation once winter starts. :)

I've just put "Spring" back on rotation myself -- thus the journal header. :)

I'm beginning to think there can't be too may shovels.

Oh my! That's a lot of snow! I'm half wondering why I am considering visiting you there as well. :) (Scheduling to be determined, I may be off the hook). Clearly the shovel situation, not so good. I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully your car will start. Clearly you ought to own two shovels, as someone below suggested. Plus then you can have one for a friend to use, should you have any friendly visitors that are willing to help shovel out to reach civilization.

Oh, and you could always put a carrot nose on it as a hood ornament.

In this temperature, the carrot nose might not even decompose!

True! You have a convenient external refrigerator. It's in your yard, and it has a HUGE capacity!

Good luck- I too have had similar sorts of shovel issues in the past, or even more creatively, failing to own a shovel while living in New England...

Speaking of visits though, I will be spending the next week with [livejournal.com profile] jakal88, i.e. in your neck of the woods. Should you actually be home and interested in maybe a visit, let me know. If not- no worries.

Tomorrow night I have a friend coming up; she'll be going back to Philadelphia with me on the morning of the 24th. If you're around before that, I'd be glad to meet up somewhere. I don't know if you're anywhere around campus, but there's a (mediocre, yet still exciting) kosher deli in Douglas cafeteria. We could meet there tomorrow lunch or something?

Lunch tomorrow or Tuesday sounds good. Let me know, and I'll get [Unknown site tag] to help me figure out how to get there. Mind getting him as well? You local folks can meet...

I have just discovered that more than half of the campus cafeterias are closed, including the one with the kosher deli. I... don't know what else to do for kosher lunch around here. Do you eat hot dairy out?

Thanks for the wonderful recipe -- I'll try it tonight! I feel your pain with the snow, having spent five days of icy craziness in Idaho recently. Stay warm! I am teaching myself to crochet so I can make more legwarmers.
