I am currently sitting in the computer lab of my dormitory, holding a pile of printouts from this morning's draft of the Beowulf paper. I suppose I should type them up, but the idea of typing up eighteen pages of old draft of paper on four hours of sleep and the residue of a Really Bad Day doesn't appeal to me so much.

You see, my computer and I were burbling along, while I was about five hours from done the paper - and then it froze. Then I reset, and then it took an awfully long time to go through the scan-for-errors, and then it did something to the registry, and then it told me that several Important Files Like Win.Com Had Ceased to Exist, and then it said Operating System Not Found.

I took my computer to the pet shop - I mean Information Services - and they told me it was an ex-computer. I was rather hoping it was just pining for the fjords, but no. My computer is no more. It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! Its mechanical processes are now 'istory! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket, it's shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-COMPUTER!!

Send me cheerful notes. I need to think happy thoughts. Yeah.

I like the sphere of flame icon thing. It goes very well with [livejournal.com profile] muchabstracted's hell, not to mention [livejournal.com profile] ayelle's Red Dwarf comments. There's definitely a theme going here.

Would really like to, but don't know if I can. I called my prof and asked for a twenty-six hour extension on my Beowulf paper at the precise moment my computer began making ominous noises, but it did not occur to me that the ominous noises would mess my paper up That Much... so anyway, I need to rewrite from old paper drafts (and I'm missing a page of stuff that had been nearly finished, even better -- and it's really shrunk, so the page that is missing is actually four pages of genuine work) and have the thing done by tomorrow at 9 PM.

Yeah. ::controls shriek::

I don't mind using the computer lab computers. If you could send me a recent paper draft, now, that would be useful.

Yes, Television has its own soul and consciousness. What's it to you? This can also be explained as: I couldn't think of anything else for General Violence.

Not only is it dead, my computer is in hell, hanging out with Judas and Brutus? I loved that computer. Just because it betrayed me doesn't mean it deserves... oh wait, circle 9 is where the traitors live, isn't it? Never mind, it deserves.

And, while I'm spamming your inbox. When I read the "word" 'istory, I thought that was referring to a weird iMac version of a story. And had no idea what it was doing in that sentence, of course. I also didn't know what an iStory would be.

Hey,
Found your LJ through a link from [livejournal.com profile] middle_ages, and your research interests sound really cool, so I was wondering if I could friend you. I'm an undergrad studying medieval history and literature, if you want to check out my journal (and friend back if you want). Right now I'm really interested in the First Crusade and Jewish-Christian relations, but next year I think I'm going to explore some other things (including hopefully taking Old English!).

You can certainly friend me. I do Jewish-Christian relations, although not so much involving the Crusades. This week's papers involve Chaucer's Prioress's Tale as well as some bizarre saints' lives involving miracles of Jewish conversion.

There will be much less Old English in this journal in the near future, now that the Beowulf work is complete. There will always be Middle English, however.

Yikes. I hope that the paper's component parts have been stitched together successfully. Am late as usual, though not as late as usual.

The problem with happy thoughts is that they take up a lot of time. Why does happy require momentum, since depressed doesn't? (Rhetorical.)
