This is an Ex-Computer
May. 14th, 2004 04:39 pmI am currently sitting in the computer lab of my dormitory, holding a pile of printouts from this morning's draft of the Beowulf paper. I suppose I should type them up, but the idea of typing up eighteen pages of old draft of paper on four hours of sleep and the residue of a Really Bad Day doesn't appeal to me so much.
You see, my computer and I were burbling along, while I was about five hours from done the paper - and then it froze. Then I reset, and then it took an awfully long time to go through the scan-for-errors, and then it did something to the registry, and then it told me that several Important Files Like Win.Com Had Ceased to Exist, and then it said Operating System Not Found.
I took my computer to the pet shop - I mean Information Services - and they told me it was an ex-computer. I was rather hoping it was just pining for the fjords, but no. My computer is no more. It has ceased to be! It's expired and gone to meet its maker! It's a stiff! Bereft of life, it rests in peace! Its mechanical processes are now 'istory! It's off the twig! It's kicked the bucket, it's shuffled off its mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-COMPUTER!!
Send me cheerful notes. I need to think happy thoughts. Yeah.

Yes, Television has its own soul and consciousness. What's it to you? This can also be explained as: I couldn't think of anything else for General Violence.
