Via [livejournal.com profile] folk: A coalition of GLBT legal groups, along with the ACLU, are suing to declare Prop 8 invalid.

As [livejournal.com profile] folk says, it's time to support the groups fighting Prop 8. I just donated what I could to Lambda Legal. My donation probably paid for less than five minutes of one lawyer's time, but it's something, and if we all pitch in, maybe we can do some good.

As soon as I can (which will be next week) I am donating money to this.

They'll need the money then too.

By the way, I've forgotten whether you still live in PA or NJ. Will your marriage be legally recognized?

I'm still in PA (Bethlehem). We haven't gotten married yet and if we do it will be in Massachutsetts. Yeah, this state won't recognize it, but I can't wait for PA to recognize gay marriage.

It may happen, but I don't think PA's going to recognize gay marriage soon. There's a lot of middle space between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. :(

Yeah, WAY too much space there. WAY WAY TOO MUCH SPACE.

I also read somewhere (and I hope this is true) that any gay marriages that were made in California before yesterday won't be invalidated.

Basically, if you married in California, your marriage will still be legal in Mass., Conn., and NY but no longer in California. :(

No, they're still OK.

That's great to hear. All sorts of rumors were flying before he made that statement, and I assumed.

I really, really hope our Supreme Court strikes it down. They should. Everyone in the court opposed it anyway...

Ah! I haven't played in months -- I retired my primary character about a year ago, and none of my other characters really caught on in my head -- but I still go over and read the game sometimes.

New York might! The Democrats took the Senate, so this time they'll almost definitely be able to get it through. Last time, the Assembly and Governor wanted it but the Republican Senate killed it.

Yay, my state.

I would not be surprised at all if New York is next.

Yeah, but a lot of that middle space is rather impressively empty. Apparently a candidate can carry PA with only 3 key counties. I learned that last night - though Obama got more than those 3.

That's true. However, there are enough people in the middle space that if a certain number of social conservatives in the cities vote with them, a socially liberal proposition can easily fail. That's what happened in California, and if it happens in CA, it can absolutely happen in PA.

Obviously Philadelphia and Allegheny but what would be the 3rd county?

Good to know--thanks. The ACLU has not spammed my inbox yet, surprisingly. :P

Jenn and I will be donating some of the money we received as anniversary presents on Monday.

We figure we shouldn't be the only ones getting the lovely anniversary presents, so we ought to redistribute the wealth.
