May. 19th, 2008 07:48 amYes, I have been remiss in updating my LiveJournal. The excellent links are beginning to pile up, though, so it's time to post.
First, I had a wonderful time at Kalamazoo. I met many people who have LJs and many people who don't, I gave a paper that I think went well, and I stayed at the annual dance until it closed at 2 AM. The Kalamazoo dance is a peculiar institution, involving hundreds of graduate students and professors who want to dance to 70s and 80s classics, a few talented folks who want to swing dance and/or polka, and a DJ who disapproves of the party's musical tastes and would prefer to play that song about the milkshake bringing all the boys to the yard. I think the DJ must have been cringing when he saw the dance floor packed with academics singing every word of "Bohemian Rhapsody" at the top of our lungs and gesturing as dramatically as possible. We, on the other hand, were enjoying ourselves hugely.
Incidentally, I am reliably informed that there was a plan to rickroll the dance, thwarted because the DJ didn't have "Never Gonna Give You Up."
Second,
bookelfe and I were trying to find the bus to Ghirardelli Square yesterday afternoon when we stopped halfway up the hill and squealed, "It's a CAT MACRO!" Sure enough, there was a cat riding an INVISIBLE BIKE painted on a wall just off Pine Street. When we researched this phenomenon last night, we discovered that the cat and the caption were actually painted on Saturday, presumably just for our benefit.

ferrousoxide, LOLmanuscripts. They're actually LOLincunabula, but they're funny anyway.
