[livejournal.com profile] prosewitch asked for HP short fic recommendations - specifically, short enough not to take large quantities of time away from the thesis.

Oral History by [livejournal.com profile] acadine. G. ~1500 words. Padma Patil realizes there are some things they don't teach at Hogwarts. There are a few typos in the story, but nothing large enough to take away my enjoyment of what happens when a postcolonial eye meets the Hogwarts syllabus.

Sublimation and the Snitch by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge. PG-13. ~4700 words. Yes, I have recced this before... but it's wonderful. The world clearly needed a Freudian reading of Quidditch. Make sure to check out the footnote on Jung.

In Another Season, also by [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge. PG-13. ~1200 words. Summary provided by author: "Lupin wanted no job, no pity, and no friends; for twelve years after the fall of Voldemort, he ran away, and for fifteen years he kept no contact with the Order. But you can't run from the past forever, especially when you've invited it into your home." Clearly, tightly written, it's the best short exploration of Copperbadge's Lupin after 1981.

Lightning Has Just Struck My Brain by [livejournal.com profile] mousapelli. Not rated, but I'd give it PG - possibly PG-13 for creepiness and the use of curses which should be, but aren't, Unforgivable. ~1200 words. The best summary is the first sentence, "There were a lot of things about Neville that weren't making sense to Harry."

A Little Night Air by [livejournal.com profile] penknife. Not rated by author, but it's G. ~1700 words. McGonagall and Snape have a conversation; the dialogue is excellent and perfectly in character.

It occurs to me that there are no pairings anywhere on this list. This is probably because I prefer the stories I read to have plot, and at under 2000 words (well, except for "Sublimation") one can either have plot or sex, not both.

Copy/paste the link, and remove the extra " from the URL.

Can one add things to the list? Mary Borsellino, "Fantastic Beasts (http://www.riddikulus.org/authorLinks/Mary_Borsellino): A two-parchment essay for Care of Magical Creatures by Sirius Black," freshly uploaded a few hours ago. Word count is just under 2100.

You don't have to have a lj to post here, but you do have to have one to see my friendslocked posts. For the most part, I only friendslock posts when they can also be found publicly at Our Blog, so you're not missing much.

Hello, Iris!

Greetings. What color iris are you, precisely?
(waves) If you do get an LJ, I shall friend it, and have something cool to read thereby.
