Yes, I've had that experience, particularly rereading children's books. I reread The Water Babies as an adult some years ago, and did end up wondering how I'd missed the fact that most of the book is rather boring political religious propaganda when I was a child. We're talking stuff that makes C.S. Lewis look subtle (though I had that experience rereading him as an adult, too).
