lgbtfest, a fanfiction community that challenges its writers to talk about the practical issues and experiences of being lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, are starting to appear. My favorite so far is penknife's Modern Love, on gender, sexuality and the dwarfs in Terry Pratchett's Ankh-Morpork.
