This is not the kind of error message I like to see on the screen of my beloved laptop, especially when accompanied by a series of bizarre and very loud continuous clicks.
Also, many of you know that redtext is always terrifying. It is especially terrifying when it appears on one's computer screen during a hard drive diagnostic test, in the following context:
Short Response Test: Fail
associated with some BIOS programmer's idea of cheery, attention-grabbing music.
In any case, the nice people at Dell are going to mail me a shiny new hard drive today. There will be much reinstalling of programs and backup files, and there will be much praying that nothing important is missing from said backup files.
I have computer lab access, not to mention friendly roommates with computers, so I should be able to check my email semi-regularly. Don't expect to see much of me on AIM, LJ or![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-community.gif)
milliways_bar for several days, though.
I hope everyone else* is having a good day!
ETA: If anyone living in my general geographic area (you know who you are) has a Dell Inspiron laptop and would be willing to lend me some program cds, please email me at rymenhild at yahoo as soon as possible. Thanks!
*Also ETA: Except for the ones in Louisiana. Having not checked the news in the fourteen hours since the computer meltdown, I hadn't any idea how bad it is down there. G-d. It puts my very minor problems in ... more perspective than I frankly know how to deal with.
