rymenhildMany apologies for the prolonged hiatus here. I was away, and then I came back into my beautiful but still box-filled new apartment. At the moment, I can only reach the Internet through campus computer labs or cafes with wireless networks.
In the last few weeks, I have seen my grandfather's katana, (war booty from WWII, in case you're curious how a Jewish man from Philadelphia ended up with a Japanese sword) the Grand Canyon, the San Diego bay from the deck of a yacht,![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
muchabstracted, prosewitch, a number of family members, and some really stupid sea lion tricks. I read the spectacular second volume of the Sandman comics, the first few chapters of City of God by E.L. Doctorow, a few hundred lines of La3amon's Brut, more fantasy novels than I can recall at the moment, and a few obituaries for Czeslaw Milosz (*sob*). I kept a Shabbat dinner for graduate students and young adults at Hillel from disintegrating into disaster. I bought an expensive new bed and a really cheap used sofa, and I stood in a half-dozen offices trying to find out what happened to my summer's fellowship check. (It appears to have been lost in the mail. They stopped payment and will hopefully send a new one soon.)
muchabstracted finally made me watch Jim Henson's Labyrinth. I believe it is the only children's movie I've ever seen in which one of the stars (David Bowie, the Goblin King) wears a large codpiece under his illegally tight trousers. Rather frightening, I must say.
