Food, glorious food

At [livejournal.com profile] pirate_eggie's literature restaurant, they serve Slaughterhouse Fries, The Phantom Tollhouse Cookies and Cry, The Beloved Country-Fried Steak. Check the comments for further recipes - my favorite is "Finnegan's Cake (not that we expect you to finish it)."

I know that you all know what you'd serve if you were running that restaurant. Tell me!

Also, there is new Dark is Rising fic!

This Will Last For Long, by [livejournal.com profile] gramarye1971 and [livejournal.com profile] delamancha, is a lovely examination of how Merriman and Gwion first became friends. Technically, it's Milliways backstory, but it stands on its own. The Lowland Hundred as Gramarye and Sweeney depict it is a place of danger and beauty, full of traps, odd laws and music.

[livejournal.com profile] daegaer wrote me a lovely short piece about Will at Miss Greythorne's ball, complete with Julian of Norwich quotation.

On a final Dark is Rising note, I realized today that I've been mispronouncing "gramarye" in my head for fourteen years -- the "y" is a vowel, not a consonant.

[livejournal.com profile] delamancha's Housman Quartet also deserves to be recced once again, because her initial characterisations of Merriman and Gwion have influenced me to no end in my own writings. (To me, it's the definitive backstory for the two of them.) Fic can be found here, with the parts clearly labelled. ^_^

Oh yes! I haven't read that in a long time, but I remember it being brilliant. Thanks for linking - I'll reread soon.

I just went through and reread ten LJ posts worth of Sweeney's DiR fic. Thank you so much for suggesting that I read them again...

but I made the mistake of reading A Gesture and a Pose last, and now I am thinking sad thoughts about all the continuities in which Milliways didn't fix the ending of Silver on the Tree.

Gah, yes. That's why I really, really like the thought of Merriman telling Will about Milliways, just in passing at some point, and mentioning that it was a place where it wasn't always necessary to pretend -- that you could have friends there who knew the whole of what you were and yet thought nothing of it. Not exactly the Cheers style of 'where everybody knows your name', but a place where a sympathetic, understanding ear wouldn't be terribly difficult to find.

Which, tangentially, reminds me -- someone should post the Cheers opening theme to [livejournal.com profile] millitunes. I'm amazed it hasn't appeared there yet. ^_^

Heh, thanks for offering me a way to procrastinate. Let's see now... ;)

The Phoenix and Turtle Soup
Secret, Black, and Midnight Haggis (cf. Macbeth 4.1.18. As for the recipe? You don't want to know)

(Am cross-posting this to [livejournal.com profile] pirate_eggie's journal...

And for a third bit of spam, I can't believe you have an appropriate icon for this.

*giggle* This is awesome. There's actually a used bookstore/cafe in New Haven that has names like this for its sandwiches - Tom Soyer is their soy-chicken sandwich; Tempesto is their mozzarella-tomato-pesto combo, Jane Rare is their roast beef - but yours are much funnier :)

this is a little too much fun...

Mixed-up is definitely the word there. Although I suppose it could be a herbed pigs-in-a-blanket dish.

In all that, no one mentioned Salmon Rushdie?

Cooked in wine, of course, so that it's against Muslim law.
